Evidence status
- Solid mechanistic evidence in animals (muscle atrophy from denervation, sarcopenia).
- In humans: only an 8-week study (n=66) with 150–300 mg validating hematologic/hepatic/hormonal safety.
- No robust RCTs for sarcopenia or performance yet. Most of the research is sponsored by the ingredient manufacturer.
- Possible specific benefit for statin users (statins reduce protein prenylation).
Mitocondrin vs. direct CoQ10
Mitocondrin helps the body produce CoQ10 (via prenylation). CoQ10 (Ubiquinol) provides the end product. For most people, Ubiquinol directly has a better cost-benefit ratio; Mitocondrin has a specific niche among statin users and in those who are after the broader effect of protein prenylation.
